An annotated bibliography is a summary or evaluation of sources (Purdue University). Depending on the assignment a person is writing the annotations can vary and may serve different purposes such as: summarize, assess, or reflect. Some annotations merely summarize the source, where as after summarizing a source some annotations it may be helpful to evaluate it. Even after you summarize your annotations, one might want to reflect upon it and see how it fits into the research.
One of the main things that this website points out is that an annotated bibliography is important because it helps you learn about your topic, and it is also to help other researchers. Writing an annotated bibliography can help someone gain a good perspective on what is being said about their topic. By reading and responding to a variety of sources on a topic, one will start to see what the issues are, what people are arguing about, and they’ll then be able to develop their own point of view.
Also there is a format for writing an annotated bibliography. The annotations for each source are written in paragraph form, and the lengths of the annotations can vary significantly from a couple of sentences to a couple of pages. The length will depend on the purpose of the paper.
